After having and loving the yellow/grey hat for about 4 years, I ordered a black hat as the old one wore out a bit.
However, the stitching is done poorly leading to about 1x4 cm of material sticking out on the inside of the cap. The edge is quite rough and rubs a lot on my bald head and causes scratches and irritation.
Perhaps I was unlucky with this particular example, but for a hat that comes at quite a premium, it is quite disappointing.
Otherwise fit and functionality are good.

This was my first experience of using a surf hat and I was really please that I went with Kaiola. I used this hat daily on my surf trip to the Maldives and it stayed in place for every duckdive and wipeout. While some of friends had their hats dangling or wiped clean off their heads, the Kaiola cap stayed comfortably in place. It was great for helping with the heat and glare in the middle of the day and protecting my skin.

I absolutely LOVE ATHIS HAT. It fits extremely well and does not move at all when surfing even when wiping out. I also like that you can tuck the straps away to still be able to wear the hat out of the water. I purchased 2 colors initially and will be buying a few more.

I love this hat! It really stays put during wipeouts and duckdives and protects me from the Costa Rican sun. Also it just looks awesome, haha! Thanks to the band within the hat, you can easily put away the chin straps and wear it outside of the water.

My surfing buddy has one and he loves it! He said it’s perfect for the sun in Hawaii and the side cord/strap is sturdy! I especially like the bill while dipping under a wave, it doesn’t pull the surf hat off. In other words it’s Cherrrayy!

This was the 2nd hat I ordered for my girlfriend. I bought her one for her birthday 1 year ago after she lost the one she had and was devastated. She has tried many other brands and this is the only one she loves. She lost it a 2nd time so I bought another this year for her birthday. Hopefully she will keep up with this, but if not she will just keep getting the same birthday present every year!

I purchased this hat for the sun protection while surfing. The bill is big enough to provide shade on my face but not too big and I’m able to see people/waves just fine. If I wipe out, the hat stays in place.
It’s surprisingly comfortable and I am picky!!!

I have tried a lot of surf hats in my time, but this one is by far and away the best. It does not come off. I'm serious. Not ever. And it is so light you forget you're wearing a hat. I also love the chin strap. All my other surf hats have had thick heavy black straps that, to be honest, don't look great and were uncomfortable. But this one is so minimal and comfortable. And I cannot speak highly enough of Barbara, Kaiola's founder. She is super responsive and resolved a small hiccup with my order with lightening speed. I am in Australia and the hats arrived within days. I thought about this hat for a long time before committing, and now I wish I had committed earlier. You will not regret it.

I love this cap, I have used it every day during 2 weeks of surfing and I haven't lost it in any wipe out. It provides great protection against the sun and is stylish.
The only thing I would change is the color of the strap on the full black model, rather than grey I would have preferred black.

I purchased this for a trip to Costa Rica but was able to test it out wake surfing beforehand. So far, it has been great. It stayed in with wipeouts, is light weight and adjustable. I’d recommend ordering one for a friend. Will update this once I’ve taken it out in the surf

I generally hate wearing a surf hat - I have tried many over the years and they all end up in the bin - but on a recent trip to Fiji, I felt I better wear one as I have burned my scalp one too many times - and I have to say, this hat is fantastic... better than anything I have ever tried and well worth the price. You can duck dive, hear, see and do all the other things you need to get your share of solid waves. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I love that the chin-straps are so thin and well designed so as to be out of the way. The hat stays on securely - never had it slip during a duck-dive or wipeout.
I like that I can flip the visor up during paddle-out.

Bought this hat for a 2 week surf trip to Fiji and just got back.
1. Style is super cool. I tucked the chin strap in and wore it like a regular hat- it was comfortable and I received a few compliments. I like the strings instead of straps- it’s low profile but very secure. The clip never came unclipped once during all of my sessions.
2. Hat stays in place when surfing and is comfortable. Waves topped out at 8ft and the hat stayed in place for every duck dive and wipeout. It didn’t impede my vision and I liked the flip up feature as well. It blocked the sun but wasn’t too cumbersome. I enjoy the low profile style very much and I look forward to seeing how it holds up in the long term.

I love to see things that are well designed and constructed. The hat looks like it’s checking both boxes. The tuck away chin strap is great for when I’m using it on small days or out of the water, and when the surf picks up, it’s simple to buckle the chin strap and be confident the hat will stay put. I’m looking forward to seeing how the hat breaks in and gets that nice sun and salt cured look!

The surf hat protects my eyes and face when I’m boogie boarding on the windward side, Oahu, Hawaii. Felt a bit unsure about the neck strap when taken under, so I just tie my hair through the loop in the back and tuck the straps under the top of hat. There is a warning on the hat, and I think that scared me because I’ve definitely been pulled under and lost everything. I had specifically looked for a hat that wouldn’t come off, but I don’t want to be strangled either. Nor scalped Looks wise, it’s like a jockey hat. The hat is light, it feels a bit small on the crown, I purchased the small/medium having measured at 22 in. appx. I have it tightened as much as possible and it’s still a bit loose, the lid is small, so to speak. The surf hat and Manda sunscreen 50 spf keep me going for about two hours full sun, boogie boarding. Overall, I like the hat, the 80 spf a plus. Not sure if it’s any better than a regular trucker hat for my particular purposes, though.
